Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga is in self-isolation after testing positive for Covid-19 over the weekend.
Ntshinga, who is said to be in good spirits and health, voluntarily took a test despite being asymptomatic. Apparently she had not experienced any illness but chose to get tested as a precaution to ensure the safety and the well-being of herself and those around her.
“She has been at the forefront of monitoring the implementation of enforcing the country’s lockdown regulations around the province, since the start of the lockdown,” said Provincial spokesperson Tembinkosi Kinana.
The Provincial office in Zwelitsha has been de-contaminated and close contacts are being tested.
“The Commissioner is encouraging all people to continue to practice social distancing, wear their masks or recommended PPE and stay at home,” added Kinana.
As a precautionary measure, the department and the Department of Health are in the process of tracing all those who may have had close contact with Ntshinga.
Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane has also decided to get tested alongside his cabinet and senior government officials today (Wednesday).
