Children in Milner Park, East London were treated to KFC and other treats on Sunday, 19 February, thanks to a family who wished to remain anonymous.
“It is a simple gesture, but this is not something the children are fortunate to always receive, so they are appreciate,” explained a volunteer worker who helped serve the food.
The family hope more people will assist in poor communities as there are thousands of children in South Africa that go by hungry, every day and basic nutrition for children under 18 is a right that has been available to all children since 1994.
In the past two years there are increased reports of malnutrition and starvation in the Eastern Cape and the government has been criticised for not being able to come up with means to ensure food reached the less fortunate.
