Sentence handed down for clothing store suspects

After what seemed like forever, East London magistrate court sentenced 31-year-old Thembalethu Vellem to 13 years imprisonment for robbery of PEP clothing store in Balfour Park Vincent, East London. His co-accused 26-year-old Mandilakhe Nkonyeni, was given six years for theft.

Apparently the armed men entered the store in June 2019, terrorised and held the staff at gunpoint and made off with a number of cellphones worth approximately R150 000.
One of the security guard on duty spotted the getaway vehicle. The registration number of the vehicle was then circulated which assisted in apprehending the suspects who was later spotted at a restaurant in Quigney, East London. The two suspects were arrested and some cellphones were recovered. The community welcomed the sentence.
